  1. Urban decay at its finest! This image would be placed in the explanatory category of Barrett’s system for sorting photographs. The subject matter is “specific to a particular time and place.” It is a “neutral, objective report”, with no attempt made to “evaluate, condemn or praise the subject.” However, in addition to its function as a documentary, the image has qualities that could place it in Barrett’s aesthetically evaluative category. The design principles of line (music staff, note stems, ceiling, ceiling support beams and poles, blocks, furniture backs, cushions and legs), shape (rectangles of all sizes are everywhere) and texture (peeling paint on all surfaces, weed/roots, fabric) make the image worthy of aesthetic observation and contemplation.

  2. Isn't it so intriguing to see a place that has been abandoned and left for dead? It just makes you crave the history of it.
